Danish language

Is English spoken in Denmark? It is used as a second language in Greenland and the Faroe Islands. It derives, as Swedish similarly does, from the dialect group that is East Norse.


East Norse, along with West Norse, both originated from the common Germanic language of Old Norse, then split into these two distinct languages. It is the national language of Greenland along Greenlandic Inuktitut , and a compulsory subject in primary schools on Faroe Islands. If you drive around in Denmark and visit smaller villages in the country side, the older folks may not speak much English and knowing a few phrases and words will help you and Danes are ALWAYS impressed. There are a multitude of other situations where knowing a little bit of the language would be helpful. Alongside English, it is also studied as a foreign language by most school students in Iceland.
